Are You Seeing the Forest or the Trees?

I had a productive VIP day at my home awhile back with an amazing group of businesswomen who are bringing love and transformation to businesses and organizations. These women are smart, talented, and accomplished, with advanced degrees (two have their PhDs and another is working on hers).
As smart as they are, their answers to my first question astounded me. When I asked their intentions for the day, they all had specific and tangible outcomes they wanted to walk away with. Everything they wanted was very doable, but it was a short list.
What surprised me was that my intention list for them was longer and more robust (and just as doable). In fact, all our intentions for the day were met easily, with lots of laughter and connection in the process.
It got me thinking about the metaphor of seeing the forest for the trees. When it comes to my own business, it’s easy for me to see the trees in front of me and overlook those that are further away. It was the same for this wonderful team. They could see the trees close by. Yet, as their coach, I could anticipate and prepare them for the forest.
This is the value of coaching. My own coach asks me questions and supports me to look beyond what I can see now, to prepare for what I might not anticipate, but is sure to come.
Coaching Tip: Here is my challenge to you - if you are working with a coach, find out their intentions for you. You might be surprised. The answer may take you to a place beyond what you can imagine now. If you are not working with a coach, have a conversation with one, and learn about the possibilities for you and your business that you might not be seeing.
